Historically the Nirankari movement was founded in the early 19th century by Baba Dyal Singh, with the aim of promoting the worship of the formless God or Nirankar. Baba Buta Singh was deeply influenced by Baba Dyal Singh's teachings and continued to spread the message of the Nirankari movement. It was under Baba Buta Singh's leadership that the Sant Nirankari Mission was founded on May 25, 1929.
The Sant Nirankari Mission was founded with the aim of revealing God realization, or 'Nirankar' to all individuals regardless of their religious background or community. Baba Buta Singh emphasized the importance of inner transformation, love, and compassion as essential qualities for spiritual growth and human welfare. The mission rejected dogmatism and superstition and advocated a rational and scientific approach to spirituality.
The mission had several spiritual leaders, known as Satgurus, who have guided its growth and development, including Baba Avtar Singh, Baba Gurbachan Singh, Baba Hardev Singh and the current spiritual head, Mata Sudiksha Ji. Today, the mission continues to promote the values of universal brotherhood, inner transformation, and service to humanity.
Over the years, the Sant Nirankari Mission has grown to become a global spiritual organization with millions of followers worldwide. Mission has also evolved to incorporate a range of social welfare activities, such as blood donation drives, disaster relief, and environmental conservation, alongside its spiritual practices.
